No. 16 Michigan beat Western Michigan 13–12 on Saturday night (Sept. 5, 2026) at Michigan Stadium when JJ Buchanan caught a 47-yard Hail Mary from Bryce Underwood as time expired — after a disputed replay put one second back on the clock.
Underwood’s first desperation throw had sailed out of bounds and appeared to end the game, but Big Ten officials ruled Western Michigan’s Micah Davis touched the ball with one second left while jumping from out of bounds, stopping the clock. Given a second chance, Michigan scored the game-winning touchdown in coach Kyle Whittingham’s debut.
