About 130 people were still missing after the passenger ferry Virgo Transport 8 capsized in the Java Sea on September 13, 2026, Indonesia’s search and rescue agency Basarnas reported. The ship was carrying 243 people — 213 passengers and 30 crew — when it lost contact in rough weather while sailing from Surabaya, East Java, to Banjarmasin on Borneo.
Basarnas said 107 people had been rescued and six people had been killed as the search continued roughly 81 nautical miles (about 150 km) from Banjarmasin.
