What are daily reference intakes?

Daily reference intakes usually means Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs): a set of science-based nutrient reference values used to plan and assess diets for healthy people. They vary by age and sex and include the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA), Adequate Intake (AI), Estimated Average Requirement (EAR), and Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL).

DRIs are issued by the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. They are related to—but not the same as—the single Daily Values (%DV) the FDA uses on Nutrition Facts labels, which are chosen for labeling rather than for individualized diet planning.
