Yes. Multiple studies show that girls are starting puberty earlier than in past decades. A meta-analysis of breast-development (thelarche) ages found the average age fell by nearly three months per decade from 1977 to 2013, and a January 2026 Nature feature notes that more girls are showing pubertal signs at age eight or earlier.
Researchers link the trend to rising childhood body mass index, prenatal and childhood exposures, and other environmental and psychosocial factors. Earlier puberty is not automatically disease, but very early onset can warrant medical evaluation because it is associated with higher later risks for some metabolic and mental-health problems.
