Intraductal papillomas are benign (noncancerous) growths in the breast milk ducts. They are not usually painful, but some people do feel localized discomfort or pain near the lump or nipple area.
Cleveland Clinic lists possible symptoms as clear or bloody nipple discharge (often from one breast), a small lump behind or near the nipple that may or may not hurt, and pain or discomfort focused in one area of the breast. Many papillomas cause no symptoms and are found only on imaging.
Breast Cancer Now similarly notes that an intraductal papilloma is not usually painful, though discomfort around the area can occur. Anyone with new nipple discharge, a breast lump, or persistent breast pain should seek clinical evaluation rather than self-diagnose.
