Are sprouted almonds healthier?

Sprouted (sometimes called “activated”) almonds are raw almonds that have been soaked so they begin to germinate. Marketing often claims this boosts nutrients or reduces antinutrients such as phytic acid, but evidence for nuts does not support a clear nutritional upgrade over regular almonds.

While sprouting can improve nutrition for some grains and legumes, studies on soaked or sprouted nuts—including almonds—find little meaningful change in phytate levels and no reliable improvement in mineral bioavailability; soaking can even lower some mineral concentrations. Choose sprouted almonds for taste or texture if you prefer them; raw almonds remain a similarly nutritious option.
