HDMI 2.2 is the latest HDMI specification from HDMI Licensing Administrator. It raises maximum link bandwidth to 96 Gbps with next-generation Fixed Rate Link signaling—about double HDMI 2.1’s 48 Gbps—so displays can carry higher resolutions and refresh rates with less compression.
Official feature highlights include support for formats such as uncompressed 8K at 60 Hz and 4K at 240 Hz with full chroma and 10- or 12-bit color, plus higher options up to 12K at 120 Hz and 16K at 60 Hz. Full 96 Gbps use needs an Ultra96 HDMI cable; older Ultra High Speed cables still cover up to 48 Gbps. HDMI 2.2 remains backward compatible with earlier HDMI versions.
