Yes. Standard 8×8 checkers (English draughts) was solved by the University of Alberta’s Chinook team, which announced on April 29, 2007 that perfect play from the starting position always ends in a draw. Black, who moves first, cannot force a win, and White can also always hold the draw no matter what opening move Black chooses.
Proving it took computers working almost continuously from 1989 (with a pause from 1997 to 2001) to work through a game with about 5 x 1020 possible positions. The team calls checkers the largest game solved so far, more than a million times larger than Connect Four.
