What are isomers?

In chemistry, isomers are molecules or polyatomic ions that share the same molecular formula, meaning the same number of atoms of each element, but have their atoms arranged differently.

Structural (constitutional) isomers connect their atoms in a different order, while stereoisomers have the same connections but differ in how the atoms are oriented in space. Because of these differences, isomers can have different physical and chemical properties.
