Who won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Economics?

The 2026 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel went to American economists Robert E. Hall of Stanford University and Michael Woodford of Columbia University, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced on October 12, 2026. They were honored “for microeconomic foundations of macroeconomic stabilisation”: models built on how forward-looking households and businesses make decisions, which central banks and governments now use to time monetary and fiscal policy and smooth out booms and recessions. The prize amount is 12 million Swedish kronor, shared equally between the two laureates.
