In 2026 the Southern Taurids peak on the night of November 4–5 and the Northern Taurids peak on the night of November 11–12, according to the American Meteor Society.
The two showers have long, overlapping activity windows. The Southern Taurids run from September 20 to November 20, 2026, and the Northern Taurids from October 20 to December 10, 2026, so some Taurid meteors can be seen on most nights from late October through mid-November. The Southern Taurids have two components: an annual one that peaks around October 14 and a fireball-swarm component that peaks around November 5. Both showers are known for bright fireballs rather than high hourly counts, and when they are active at the same time in late October and early November there is sometimes a noticeable rise in fireball reports. Moonlight should not be much of a problem this year: the Moon will be a 25% lit waning crescent at the southern peak and only 4% lit at the northern peak.
