Are American League teams part of Major League Baseball?

Yes. The American League (AL) is one of the two leagues that constitute Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States and Canada, alongside the National League. It grew out of the Western League, a Great Lakes–based minor league that later sought major-league status, and it is sometimes called the Junior Circuit because it claimed major-league status for the 1901 season. Today the AL fields 15 clubs in three divisions (East, Central, and West), including 14 U.S. teams and Canada’s Toronto Blue Jays; those clubs compete within MLB’s regular season, playoffs, and World Series structure.
