On Sunday, October 11, 2026, President Donald Trump said in a brief social media post that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an “energy ceasefire” that took effect immediately, meaning a halt to strikes on each other’s power plants, refineries and other energy infrastructure. He gave no other details, and Moscow did not immediately comment. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the announcement and said Ukraine was ready to stop hitting Russian energy sites if Russia did the same, but his office said Russia struck a power plant in Kharkiv after Trump’s post. A similar claim Trump made on September 14 also came to nothing.
