Are Ziploc containers BPA-free?

Yes. SC Johnson, the company that makes Ziploc, states that its Ziploc brand bags and containers are BPA free. BPA, or bisphenol A, is a chemical used in some hard plastics and in the linings of some food cans, and it has drawn health concerns because it can mimic estrogen in the body.

SC Johnson also says Ziploc products are evaluated for toxicity and safety, meet applicable food-contact regulations, and are free of dioxins. Ziploc containers are labeled for use in the microwave, freezer, fridge, and dishwasher when used as directed; Ziploc plastic bags may be used in the microwave only to defrost or reheat food, with the zipper left open at least an inch to vent steam.
