To cancel GitHub Copilot, open GitHub, click your profile picture, choose Settings, then Billing & licensing and Licensing (or Billing and licensing, then Plans and usage on the original billing platform). In the “GitHub Copilot” section, open the Manage subscription dropdown, click Cancel subscription, and confirm Cancel Copilot Pro, Copilot Pro+ or Copilot Max.
As of November 4, 2026, GitHub says you keep your current features until the billing cycle ends and are then downgraded to Copilot Free automatically. GitHub does not refund unused time when you cancel a monthly personal plan.
You cannot cancel if you have free Copilot access as a verified student, teacher or open source maintainer, or if your seat comes from an organization or enterprise. In those cases an organization or enterprise owner manages the plan, and you can disable Copilot in your editor instead. If a company later assigns you a Copilot Business or Enterprise seat, your personal plan is canceled automatically. If you cannot sign in to the account being billed, GitHub recommends its account recovery steps and then GitHub Support.
