On September 8, 2026, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned 27 Iranian airlines under Operation Economic Outcast, using the August 24, 2026 aviation-sector determination under Executive Order 13902. The action was part of a broader set of 36 designations aimed at Iran’s aviation sector, which Treasury says the regime uses to move weapons, personnel, and illicit cargo.
Treasury described the designations as covering Iran’s remaining active airlines not already under U.S. sanctions, and also targeted foreign intermediaries and sales agents linked to previously sanctioned Mahan Air. Property of the designated persons in the United States or held by U.S. persons is blocked.
