Did Webb find brown dwarfs as small as twice Jupiter’s mass in IC 348?

NASA said on September 15, 2026, that new James Webb Space Telescope observations of the star-forming region IC 348 revealed brown dwarfs with masses as low as about twice Jupiter’s mass—the least massive brown dwarfs known, according to the agency. The observations also found a disk around one very low-mass brown dwarf, suggesting small planets could form around it.
