No, not while the original owner is alive. The IRS says required minimum distribution (RMD) rules do not apply to Roth IRAs during the owner’s lifetime, so you can leave the money invested for as long as you want instead of starting withdrawals at age 73 as you must with a traditional IRA. Since 2024, the same is true of designated Roth accounts in workplace plans such as a Roth 401(k) or Roth 403(b).
The exception is inherited accounts: after the owner dies, beneficiaries of a Roth IRA or designated Roth account are subject to RMD rules, although qualified Roth distributions are still generally tax-free.
