How long do US companies have to wind down business with the ICC under the new sanctions?

Six months. On October 9, 2026, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced sweeping new U.S. sanctions on the International Criminal Court as an institution. The measures block any ICC assets in U.S. jurisdictions and give U.S. companies and individuals that do business with the court a six-month window to wind that business down.

The Netherlands, which hosts the court in The Hague, called the move a deeply regrettable step.
