Is Microsoft Copilot free?

Yes, Microsoft Copilot is free to use: Microsoft offers a limited free version in the Copilot app, on the web, in Microsoft Edge and on mobile, subject to available capacity and usage limits.

As of October 31, 2026, free users can chat with Copilot, create images and upload files. Signing in is optional, but a personal Microsoft account adds chat history, image creation, longer conversations and voice. When you reach a limit, you can come back later or upgrade.

Paid access comes through Microsoft 365 plans, which Microsoft’s US pricing page lists at $9.99 a month for Personal, $12.99 for Family, $19.99 for Premium and $99.99 for Pro (monthly billing only). These plans add Copilot in the Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook desktop apps and higher usage limits. Researcher and Analyst require Premium or Pro, and Copilot AI benefits apply only to the subscription owner, not shared family members. Microsoft also offers a one-month free trial of Personal, Family and Premium. Microsoft Copilot is a separate product from GitHub Copilot, which has its own plans.
