What are corrections programs?

A corrections program is a structured effort that provides retribution, rehabilitation, and supervision for people who have been arrested, convicted, or sentenced for a crime. It works through incarceration, probation, and parole, and often includes education, job training, mental health care, and substance-use treatment to help people reintegrate into society.

These programs may be optional or required as part of a sentence—including for juveniles—and their usual goals are accountability, public safety, and reducing reoffending.
