Government buildings are public facilities that house civic and administrative work. Common examples include capitol or parliament buildings for legislatures, courthouses for courts, city halls and agency headquarters for day-to-day administration, and national libraries or archives that keep official records.
In the United States, a prominent legislative example is the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. According to the Architect of the Capitol, it covers well over 1.5 million square feet, contains the Senate and House chambers, and sits at the center of a Capitol Campus that also includes major congressional office buildings and Library of Congress buildings.
