What are some track and field events?

Track and field (athletics) covers running, jumping, and throwing events contested on a track and infield. Governing body World Athletics groups core disciplines into sprints, middle- and long-distance races, hurdles, jumps, throws, relays, and combined events.

Common track events include the 100m, 200m, and 400m sprints; middle and long distances such as the 800m, 1500m, 5000m, and 10,000m; the 3000m steeplechase; and hurdles (100m/110m and 400m). Field events include the high jump, pole vault, long jump, and triple jump, plus the shot put, discus, hammer, and javelin. Athletes also compete in relays (4x100m and 4x400m) and combined events such as the heptathlon and decathlon.
