What caused the Google Cloud outage on October 20, 2026?

Google Cloud says a “power event” caused the outage that disrupted online services in the UK on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. The problem hit its UK data centre complex, known as the europe-west2 region.

Google first flagged the incident on its service health dashboard on Monday evening UK time. In the early hours of Tuesday, it updated the dashboard to report “elevated errors and intermittent network failures” across some services in that region. Revolut confirmed that its disruption came from a third-party issue after the outage tracker Downdetector logged more than 1,500 reports shortly after 08:00 BST, and it said customers’ money and data were safe. Customers of Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland also reported problems, as did the video platform HM Courts and Tribunals Service uses for remote hearings and the delivery firm DPD, although most companies had not officially linked their issues to Google. As of Tuesday morning, Google had not given a timeline for a full fix, said it was still investigating, and apologised to everyone affected.
