When and where will Rwanda host Formula 1’s African Grand Prix?

Rwanda signed a 10-year deal with Formula 1 in October 2026 to host a race called the African Grand Prix, starting “in the early 2030s.” No exact year or calendar slot has been set yet. The race will run on a new, purpose-built circuit designed by former F1 driver Alex Wurz in Bugesera, about 25 miles (40 km) south of the capital, Kigali, next to the city’s new international airport. It will be the first F1 race in Africa since South Africa hosted the 1993 grand prix at Kyalami; South Africa is the only African country that has held a world championship race before.
