Short answer: Spain will hold an early general election on Sunday, November 29, 2026. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced the date in an institutional statement on October 5, 2026, saying he had informed the King and called an extraordinary Council of Ministers that morning to dissolve the Cortes Generales, Spain’s parliament, and call the vote.

The election had not been due until 2027. The government said the formal call would be published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado, Spain’s official gazette, the following day. The announcement came days after Congress rejected two of the government’s housing decree-laws on October 2.
