Storm Boelo is expected to reach Scotland on Saturday evening, October 24, 2026, with the Met Office amber wind warning running from 21:00 Saturday until 21:00 Sunday, October 25 (UK time).
The warning was upgraded from yellow to amber and covers the whole Scottish mainland and the Western Isles, while Orkney stays under a yellow alert. Forecasters expect widespread gusts of 60–70mph (97–113km/h) and up to 80mph (129km/h) in exposed coastal areas, along with heavy rain and frequent showers. The strongest winds will hit western Scotland and the far north of Northern Ireland first, then spread east overnight before easing from the west through Sunday. The Met Office warned of possible danger to life from flying debris, power cuts, loss of phone coverage, bridge closures and transport disruption. Network Rail plans to close several west and north Scotland lines, including the Oban and Mallaig routes, from Saturday night. Boelo is the second named storm in a few days, following Storm Austen.
