Short answer: Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton leads the “Super Intelligence Force,” the new federal AI task force President Trump announced on social media on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

Clayton, a former chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission, will be joined by Federal Trade Commission Chair Andrew Ferguson and Emil Michael, the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering. Trump said the group will coordinate the federal government’s engagement with consumers, public interest groups, religious organizations, critical infrastructure providers and AI companies, and the BBC reports it will answer directly to Trump and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
