To delete your ChatGPT account on the web, sign in, open your account menu and select Settings, then Account, select Delete next to Delete account, enter your email or phone number, type DELETE and select Permanently delete my account.
As of November 4, 2026, the mobile apps work too: on iOS go to Settings, Data controls, Delete account, and on Android choose Data controls, then Delete OpenAI account. If you can’t sign in, submit a request through OpenAI’s Privacy Portal. Business, Enterprise and Edu workspace users must ask their organization.
Deletion is permanent and also closes API access. OpenAI deletes your data within 30 days, apart from limited data it must keep by law. Deleting cancels subscriptions billed directly by ChatGPT, but not Apple App Store or Google Play subscriptions, so cancel those first. Older guides say you can never reuse your email, but OpenAI now lets you sign up again with the same email after 30 days if the account was fully deleted.
