Can you renew an expired passport?

Yes. According to USA.gov, you can renew an expired U.S. passport by mail (Form DS-82) or online, as long as it was issued within the last 15 years, you were at least 16 when it was issued, it is undamaged, and it is in your current name or you can document a name change.

If your passport was issued more than 15 years ago, before your 16th birthday, or is damaged, lost, or stolen, you cannot renew it and must apply for a new passport in person with Form DS-11.
