ChatGPT usage limits: how much can you use on each plan?

ChatGPT usage limits depend on your plan: everyday text chats are unlimited on Free, Go, Plus and Pro (subject to abuse guardrails), while uploads, image creation, voice, deep research and Codex are capped on Free and expand on each higher plan.

As of November 3, 2026, OpenAI lists these differences:

  • Free: limited uploads, images, voice, deep research and Codex; 27K GPT Instant context window
  • Go: more messages with tools, uploads and images; 54K Instant and 256K reasoning context
  • Plus: adds GPT-6 reasoning models and expanded deep research and Codex; 54K Instant and 256K reasoning context
  • Pro ($100, $200 or $500 a month): expanded model access and the largest allowances; 128K Instant and 400K reasoning context

OpenAI does not publish exact message counts for most limits. When you reach a model’s limit, it may be unavailable until the allowance resets, and ChatGPT shows the reset time when available. Pro 200 includes more usage than Pro 100, and Pro 500 the most. Support cannot reset limits, but eligible Codex and ChatGPT Work usage can continue with purchased credits.
