Cursor does not train on your code if Privacy Mode is turned on, but with Privacy Mode off, Cursor says it may store and use your codebase data, prompts and code snippets to improve its AI features and train its models.
As of November 3, 2026, Cursor’s Data Use and Privacy Overview (last updated September 3, 2026) says that with Privacy Mode enabled, customer data is not used for training by Cursor, and its zero data retention agreements mean AI model providers will not store or train on your data. Prompts that trigger abuse detectors may still be stored for investigation.
Cursor’s Security page says Privacy Mode is available to anyone on the free or Pro plans, can be turned on in settings, and can be enforced by a team or enterprise admin. Cursor’s documentation says Privacy Mode is on by default for Enterprise teams. A few models that require provider data retention, such as Claude Fable 5.1, need admin approval when Privacy Mode is on. Cloud Agents are the one feature that requires Cursor to store code.
