What is the difference between a direct flight and a nonstop flight?

A nonstop flight goes from your origin airport to your destination with no intermediate stops. You board once and land only at the final airport.

A direct flight uses a single flight number between two points, but it may include one or more scheduled stops along the way (for passengers or technical reasons). Travelers sometimes confuse “direct” with “nonstop”; if you want zero landings in between, look for nonstop.
