Early long-range forecasts for winter 2026/2027 point to a strong “Super El Niño” shifting the storm track south across North America. Seasonal models favor above-normal snowfall across much of the southern and central United States — including the Sierra Nevada, south-central Rockies, Plains, Midwest, Ohio Valley, and Mid-Atlantic — while the Pacific Northwest, northern Plains, Great Lakes, and much of southern Canada look drier for snow.
Europe’s outlook is generally for below-normal lowland snowfall under a milder Atlantic flow, with better snow chances mainly at higher elevations such as the Alps. These are probabilistic seasonal trends, not day-by-day forecasts, and they can still shift as El Niño evolves into late fall.
