Claude Personal Finance is Anthropic’s US beta that lets Pro, Max, and Ultra users connect bank and card accounts through Plaid, then ask Claude about balances and spending in everyday language. Access is read-only: Claude cannot move, manage, or invest your money, and hub chats are not used for training.

What Claude Personal Finance is
Anthropic announced Personal Finance in Claude so you can ask about your own money without opening every banking app. Connect the accounts you choose, then ask where spending went, whether a trip fits, or what an APR has cost you.
Plaid’s November 5, 2026 post confirms Plaid powers the connections. Access is read-only, so Claude cannot move money. Anthropic says the feature has no ads or sponsored recommendations and does not offer credit cards, loans, or savings accounts of its own.
It sits alongside other Claude tooling in guides such as Claude Code 2.1.318, Claude Message Threads, and the Claude API version 2026-10-21 notes.
Plan availability
Personal Finance is rolling out in beta for paid individual plans in the United States. The Help Center lists platforms and excluded plans.
| Item | Details (official) |
|---|---|
| Plans included | Pro, Max, and Ultra (US beta) |
| Plans excluded | Free, Team, and Enterprise |
| Region | United States only; US banks only |
| Clients | claude.ai web, Claude Desktop, Claude for iOS, Claude for Android |
| Not available in | Claude Duet; not usable in Claude Code, scheduled tasks, or Cowork tasks |
| Rollout | Gradual; you might not see it in the sidebar yet |
| Money movement | None — read-only; cannot move, manage, or invest |
Anthropic does not publish a separate add-on price in the announcement or Help Center article used here. Access follows your Pro, Max, or Ultra subscription. For broader pricing context, see Claude API pricing and Claude Haiku 5.5.
What Claude can see
You approve read-only access in Plaid for the accounts you select. Anthropic’s Help Center lists what Claude can and cannot read today.
| Claude can read | Claude does not read (today) |
|---|---|
| Bank names | Bank password (you sign in through Plaid) |
| Account names, types, last four digits | Full account numbers from Plaid (usually last four digits only) |
| Balances and credit limits | Investment holdings, trades, rates, or loan terms |
| Up to 24 months of transactions (amount, date, merchant, category, description) | Ability to move, manage, or invest money |
The product article says “up to two years” of transactions; the Help Center says “up to 24 months.” If a bank puts a full account number in a name or description, Claude may see it there. For investments, loans, and cards, Claude reads balances and credit limits only, even if Plaid’s consent screens mention more.
How to connect accounts with Plaid
Steps from Anthropic’s Help Center:
- Open Claude on the web, Desktop, or mobile.
- Open Personal Finance in the side menu (or More).
- Select Get started.
- Choose goals or skip, then Continue.
- Select Link accounts with Plaid.
- Review what Claude can access on Connect Plaid to Claude, then Continue.
- In Plaid, choose your bank, sign in, and pick accounts to share.
- Back in Claude, wait for accounts to appear, then Link another account or Done.
Finish within 10 minutes and return to Claude right away. Plaid opens in a new window (web), your default browser (Desktop), inside the app (iOS), or a browser tab (Android). Cap is 16 banks. To add an account at a linked bank, link that bank again and share every account you want Claude to read.
Hub, chats, and privacy
The Personal Finance page has widgets for spending, cash flow, accounts, subscriptions, upcoming bills, and short insights. Ask on that page, pick a suggestion, or ask in a regular chat once accounts are linked.
- Connecting through Plaid is your permission to share the listed data with Claude.
- Claude does not ask for or see your bank password.
- Financial data is used to respond to your requests.
- Chats in the Personal Finance hub are not used to train Anthropic’s models; outside the hub, your normal privacy settings apply.
- Hosting providers and Plaid also handle bank data under their terms.
In chats that use linked accounts, Anthropic says Claude is designed not to save that chat to memory or search it later, and to leave it out of your monthly recap. Claude asks before publishing an artifact from such a chat. Shared links can show account figures. Toggle Plaid under Connectors. Data exports do not yet include the saved Personal Finance dashboard; see How to export Claude data for other Claude exports.
Limitations and unlink steps
- US banks only.
- Linked accounts cannot be used in scheduled tasks, Cowork tasks, or Claude Code, and may not work in a project.
- Not available in Claude Duet.
- Balances can be a day or two old; dual logins may double-count; unread banks are left out of spending widgets.
- Claude can make mistakes — check figures in your bank app. The feature is not designed for investment advice.
To unlink: Personal Finance → Manage linked accounts → Unlink → confirm. That removes every account under that bank login. Unlink all banks to stop; unlinking your last bank deletes dashboard widgets and setup answers permanently. You can also disconnect at my.plaid.com. When a paid plan ends, Personal Finance closes and chat reads stop, but banks stay linked until you unlink them. Moving to Team or Enterprise unlinks banks at the start of the move. Deleting your Claude account unlinks banks after deletion is processed.
FAQ
Who can use Claude Personal Finance?
Anthropic’s Help Center says Personal Finance is in beta on Pro, Max, and Ultra plans in the United States only. It works on Claude web, Desktop, iOS, and Android. It is not on Free, Team, or Enterprise, and rollout is gradual.
What data can Claude read from linked banks?
For shared accounts, Claude can read bank names; account names, types, and last four digits; balances and credit limits; and up to 24 months of transactions (amount, date, merchant, category, bank description). It does not read holdings, trades, rates, or loan terms. Access is read-only via Plaid; Claude does not see your bank password.
How do I connect a bank account with Plaid?
Open Personal Finance in the side menu (or More), select Get started, then Link accounts with Plaid. Review access, continue, sign in at your bank in Plaid, choose accounts, and return to Claude within 10 minutes. You can link up to 16 banks; sync can take a few minutes.
Are Personal Finance hub chats used for training?
Anthropic states that chats in the Personal Finance hub are not used to train its models. Outside the hub, your normal privacy settings apply. Unlink a bank anytime so Claude can no longer see it, or disconnect Claude at my.plaid.com.
What are the main limitations right now?
US banks only. Linked accounts cannot be used in scheduled tasks, Cowork tasks, or Claude Code, and may not work in a project. Personal Finance is not in Claude Duet. Data exports do not yet include the saved dashboard. Claude can make mistakes; balances may be a day or two old.
How do I unlink a bank or stop using the feature?
In Personal Finance, open Manage linked accounts, select Unlink on the bank, and confirm. That removes every account under that login. Unlink all banks to stop; if it is your last bank, dashboard widgets and setup answers are deleted and cannot be undone.
