To export your ChatGPT data, sign in to ChatGPT on the web, open your profile menu, go to Settings, then Data controls, select Export next to Export data, and choose Confirm export. OpenAI then emails or texts you a link to a ZIP file containing your chat history and other account data.
As of November 5, 2026, OpenAI’s Help Center says self-service export is available on ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus and Pro, and on eligible ChatGPT Edu workspaces, but not on Business, Enterprise or ChatGPT for Healthcare workspaces, where the workspace owner handles data access. The export can take up to 7 days to arrive, and the download link expires 24 hours after you receive it, so download it while signed in to the same account. In the iOS and Android apps, the option is under Settings, then Data controls, then Export data. If you cannot sign in, use the OpenAI Privacy Portal: select Make a Privacy Request, I have a consumer ChatGPT account, then Download my data. An export cannot restore chats you have already deleted.
