Does Gemini train on your data?

Yes, Gemini trains on your data by default on a personal Google Account: when the Keep Activity setting is on, which it is by default for users 18 and over, Google uses your Gemini Apps activity to improve its services, including training generative AI models, and some chats are read by human reviewers. Work and school accounts differ, since Google Workspace does not use customer data to train models without the customer’s prior permission or instruction.

As of October 30, 2026, you can stop this at gemini.google.com by opening Settings & help, choosing Activity and selecting Turn off or Turn off and delete activity. Future chats then are not used to train Google’s models unless you send feedback, but they are still kept for up to 72 hours.

Temporary chats are not used for training. Audio and Gemini Live videos and screenshares are not used to improve Google services unless you opt in. Chats already reviewed by humans are disconnected from your account and kept for up to 3 years, even if you delete your activity.

For Google’s newest model, see our Gemini 4 Argon power-user guide, or compare whether Claude trains on your data.
